The discovery
In April 2023, SFN confirms that our semiconductor platform is naturally radiation tolerant. This is not an engineered addition or a post-hoc modification — it is a property of the underlying physics.
Radiation tolerance in semiconductors is typically achieved through expensive shielding, specialised process steps, or significant design overhead. In our semiconductor platform, it is simply present.
What this opens up
Radiation tolerance is a prerequisite for semiconductor devices used in aviation, space, and selected defence and industrial applications. Components operating in high-altitude or space environments are exposed to particle radiation that causes bit-flip errors, latch-up, and device failure in conventional CMOS.
Our semiconductor platform's natural radiation tolerance removes this barrier — opening up markets that are otherwise inaccessible to standard commercial semiconductor processes.
The radiation tolerance property was formally recognised and confirmed. Aerospace represents one of the most demanding environments for semiconductor devices — and one of the most valuable markets for a technology that can meet those demands.
